“Some Minutes in the Wilderness” in Sap Zine 3

Sap is a zine dedicated to queer erotica with an ecofeminist bent. “Some Minutes in the Wilderness” is a story about blowing off steam with a great partner in the great outdoors.

Excerpt

“How did you know I’m here?”
“Guessed,” they say. “I thought you might be checking if the berries were ripe.”
I nod. Some are, little purple jewels on the thorny canes. When black raspberries are ready, they’ll fall into your hand with a pinch, their juice leaving streaks that evoke Lady Macbeth. Today the fruit didn’t cross my mind; I’m too angry for sweetness.
“Thanks for coming.” Not polite, it’s my instinctive reaction to seeing them. My love. God, they’re wonderful to see. Wiry forearms emerge from the rolled-up sleeves of their shirt. Stubble freckles their neck and chin. The dark pools of their eyes watch me steadily.
I reach out and our fingers intertwine. We pull close. I bury my face in their neck, press into it, scrubbing my skin.
“You okay?” they ask. …
They walk where I push until we connect with a tree trunk. A nudge to their shoulder spins them around. They fold their arms against the bark, head down, ass out. I slide my fingers into their waistband.
“Out here,” they say, not quite a question.
